Solar powered buildings for cost sensitive municipalities

Municipal Roofs

  • Be a role model in your community
  • Support government climate protection and renewable energy goals
  • Generate revenue to finance community activities

Municipal administrations as part of the government are at the forefront when it comes to the realization of the Kyoto and Stockholm goals is to prevent global temperature from rising above 2°C of pre-industrial conditions. Due to their public position they are a role model for their local community members to participate in these efforts.

A cost sensitive option to support these objectives is the combination of energy efficient refurbishing of existing buildings that require roof renovation. Including the addition of PV-systems directly into this process allows to reduce overall building costs and generate further income through the solar energy production – be it through feed-in tariffs or net-metering incentives or simply by reducing the electricity bill – funds that can be used to directly support other community activities. Additionally, supporting the use of renewable energies and in particular solar energy is a factor contributing to increasing the public image and attractiveness of the municipality for further businesses and inhabitants.

Particularly, school PV-projects, combining clean energy generation, public displaying of the generated electricity and avoided emission as well as the active integration into educational training, fosters a consciousness for environmental concerns and demonstrates alternative solutions and behavior.

Solar Integrated has developed various lightweight, durable solar solutions based on UNI-SOLAR®’s PV-laminates, which render high energy yields, which are fully integrated into the roofing material and allow refurbishment and solar system installation in one step. Solar Integrated has developed a special program for schools, called the SolarEducationPackage consisting of a free display and data-logger system with every 10 kWp system and a classroom set of educational material for primary and high schools.
